How Much Should My Business Spend On A Solar Solution?

Most of us remember the feeling of sitting in class, too afraid to ask a question because we’ll look like an idiot in front of our peers. It’s even worse when we’re adults, especially when there’s an added layer of not knowing enough about the product in which you want to invest and potentially losing large amounts of money on a deal due to a lack of information. Fortunately, J2G meets you half-way. If you have a business and you want to move away from Eskom and their tariff hikes over the upcoming years, then stick around. This article aims to give you a high-level overview. Of course, no two solar solutions will be the same. However, generally speaking, there are definable tiers based on the size and needs of a business.

Tier 1 – Small Business

This is the option for you if you own a commercial building, such as a Spar, Spur, panel beaters, etc.
Size of solution: 20 – 200 KvA
Cost of solution when bought outright: R200 000 to R2 million
Financing available? Yes. Finance is available from J2G at zero-risk, zero-cost.

Tier 2 – Medium Business

This option is for you if you own a commercial building in the form of a strip mall. This size is also ideal for small agricultural businesses.
Size of solution: 200 – 600 KvA Peak
Cost of solution when bought outright: R2 million – R5.5 million
Financing available? Yes. Finance is available from J2G at zero-risk, zero-cost.

Tier 3 – Large Business

This option is ideal for the owner of large shopping malls, small manufacturing plants, and larger agricultural businesses.
Size of solution: 600 KvA peak – 1 MW
Cost of solution when bought outright: R5.5 million – R9.5 million
Financing available? Yes. Finance is available from J2G at zero-risk, zero-cost.

Tier 4 – Extra Large Business

This size is ideal for large shopping malls, large manufacturing plants, warehouses, especially cold storage, and data centres.
Size of solution: Greater than 1 MW
Cost of solution when bought outright: R9.5 million+
Financing available? Yes. Finance is available from J2G at zero-risk, zero-cost.

Since our Minister of Finance recently lifted the ban on solutions over 1 MW, business owners can now install solutions up to 10 MW. This is the ideal time to navigate away from Eskom and take the power back into your own hands. And remember, if you are not the owner of the property that your business utilises, share this article with the owner.
